In January 1967, when he was 17, Hall and a friend saw Albert Hoffman at a bus stop in Detroit one night. They dragged him into an alley, then beat and robbed him of his watch and some money. The former Army sergeant who served in World War I, died of his injuries on his 73rd birthday. The friend was never arrested, but Hall was convicted of murder. (MDOC via AP)
