The community of about 1,000 people in Salcha, in the middle of the Fairbanks North Star Borough, has a richer history than you might think, and retired teacher Viltrakis is on a mission to document it. The three-room historical museum has photographs and artifacts related to old homesteads, roadhouses, gold mining, the Salchaket band of Athabascans, the Salcha telegraph station, the old Valdez Trail and more.
