Guides often use horses and mules to get you in and out of the rough sheep country and hunters need to be in decent physical condition. River area hunts also offer transportation by raft. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife captured and relocated California bighorn sheep at several locations in 2014 to improve genetic diversity among herds. The population of bighorn sheep has grown to an estimated 3,500-3,700 as a result of ODFW’s aggressive restoration efforts.
