President Barack Obama spoke to Green Bay ABC News and told the reporter the reason he did not visit Wisconsin during the recall election of Republican Governor Scott Walker and help campaign for Walker’s opponent ,Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, was that he was too busy.
SEE RELATED:“The truth of the matter is that as president of the United States I’ve got a lot of responsibilities. I was supportive of Tom and have been supportive of Tom. Obviously, I would have loved to have seen a different result,” said Mr. Obama.
Politico reported the rest of the quote from interview:
“But the broader principle that we want an economy that is not just focused on the few at the top, but is a broad-based economy that invests in our future … I think that’s something that in everything I do shows that those are the values I care deeply about, and we’re going to be fighting very hard in Wisconsin just like we have in the past to make sure that’s the kind of government that the American people get.”
Mayor Barrett lost to Governor Walker by seven points last week, despite a heavy union push all year to kick Scott Walker out of Wisconsin’s governor’s position.
It looks like President Obama spent the majority of June 1, the Friday before the election on June 6, raising money for his campaign in Minnesota and Illinois:
