Waiting time was down to half an hour at 11:00 a.m. in the heavily 
Democratic neighborhood of Cleveland Park — half what it was at  7 
a.m according to election officials.

Sandy Sierck, a lawyer and Obama supporter, said he was feeling “optimistic and less nervous” than he had in the days before the vote.

Noting that President Bush won about 9 percent of the vote in the District of Columbia in 2004, Mr. Sierck said, “I’d be surprised if McCain gets 5 percent.”
