Americans were fans of the presidential election, but enough is enough. Fully 82 percent of us now say they don’t miss following the election one bit, according to a Pew Research Center survey of 1,000 adults released Wednesday.
The sense of history lingers, though. For posterity’s sake, almost a quarter of us saved a newspaper with headlines about President-elect Barack Obama’s victory. Among blacks, 55 percent saved a paper. Among Democrats, 36 percent set aside that print edition, compared to 9 percent of Republicans.
Fox News host Bill O’Reilly brought out emotional polarities. He topped the lists of both “favorite commentator” and “worst commentator” among respondents.
The favorites after Mr. O’Reilly: NBC’s Tom Brokaw, followed by Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Charles Gibson of CBS and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC .
The least favorites after Mr. O’Reilly: Katie Couric of CBS, Fox News in general, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh and Mr. Olbermann.
Partisan differences surfaced though. Republicans cited Ms. Couric, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and Mr. Olbermann as the worst commentators. For Democrats, the least favorites were Mr. O’Reilly, Fox News and Mr. Limbaugh.
