The hot Sunday-night ticket was at the Fillmore Auditorium, where hundreds of delegates, supporters and various other people who like to party attended the New Orleans Jam-Balaya, a fundraiser for the nonprofit Friends of New Orleans.
Revelers at the event had a taste of the Big Easy, with Mardi Gras beads, Cajun red beans, po’ boy sandwiches and, of course, hurricanes to drink as a lineup of New Orleans-style bands played past midnight.
Faces in the crowd included Democratic strategists James Carville and Donna Brazile, along with Louisana Sen. Mary Landrieu.
“It is wonderful to have so many friends of New Orleans,” Ms. Landrieu said. “We are keeping this issue alive for both the Democrats and the Republicans. This is a bipartisan plea for support.”
Emily Byram, executive director of the Friends of New Orleans, said the goal is to raise money and awareness. She did not say how much cash the group raised for the effort to rebuild the city.
“We mainly sold sponsorship packages to groups,” she said. “We wanted to show them a good time and show them what New Orleans has to offer.”
