Number of ".org" sites tops 7 million

More than 7 million Internet domains are registered as “.org,” sites, making it the third-most popular domain after “.com” and “.net.”

Domains ending with .org are mainly used by noncommercial organizations. The Reston-based Public Interest Registry said the number of new .org registrants has grown 20 percent year-over-year since it took over management of the domain five years ago.
