Rats are being hailed as heroes of mankind because the little pests can ferret out land mines and the tuberculosis bacteria, the Boston Globe is reporting.

That’s great, really. It’s just hard for me to get over my primary — and secondary — aversion to vermin. Just a personal thing, I suppose.

And there’s not much call for the use of rats in my day-to-day activities. I don’t have any land mines near my home, and if I had tuberculosis, I wouldn’t want to be diagnosed by a rat.
