Saxby Chambliss has taken an early lead in the runoff election for his U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, the Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting.
SEE RELATED:Chambliss, the Republican incumbent, was leading Democratic challenger Jim Martin, 64% to 36%, according to AJC.
The contest was being watched closely because a Martin win would give the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.
