White House, Democrats near bailout deal for car makers

The White House and congressional Democrats have reached a tentative deal to bailout the Big Three automakers — to the tune of $15 billion, S.A. Miller and David R. Sands are reporting.

The automakers had asked for $34 billion.

Now, I’m no math whiz, but it seems that Washington’s offer is a little short, so somebody in Detroit should be hurting. Unfortunately, it’s likely to be the autoworkers.
