Here are all the balls in the order that the Obamas went to them:
Obama home states - Convention Center
Commander in chief - Building Museum
Youth - Washington Hilton
Biden home states - Convention Center
Mid-atlantic - Convention Center
Western regional - Convention Center
Midwestern regional - Convention Center
Southern regional - Armory
Eastern regional - Union Station
Our last pre-positioned pool was at the Western Ball, in somewheresville deep in the recesses of the Convention Center. No Marine band here — Navy band this time.
Same drill as before. Raucous crowd. Chants of “Obama.” Mayhem upon arrival at 11:36 p.m. Departure at 11:41 p.m. The first couple looked weary, with three balls still to go at three different locations.
Brief comments before dance from POTUS:
“Today was about you.”
Told them they “made possible what seemed impossible” and “made real what seemed unreal.”
Mixed things up a bit with mentions of jobs, healthcare, the environment and foreign policy.
“The Obama administration will make government work. We’re not going to do it by ourselves. We’re going to need you. So this is not the end. This is just the beginning.”
Of FLOTUS he said, “She does everything I do except she does it in heels.”
While they danced, he kissed her cheek. She rubbed his back.
This report is being filed 30 minutes after the event ended because somehow the pool, after their last event of the evening, was led into the massive crowd headed toward the only escalator being used by the thousands of people, leading to a disintegration of the pool and many lost journalists wandering the expansive and sundry levels of the beast that is the convention center. Eventually we all reunited and filed our reports and went home. Good night.
