John McCain was asked yesterday about his ad attacking Barack Obama as a lightweight celebrity, and the woman said it seemed to go back on McCain’s promise to run a positive campaign on the issues.
His answer: He’s proud of the ad, which poses the question of whether Obama, who secured the Democratic presidential nomination after a drag-out fight with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, is anything other than a celebrity.
Democrats were amazed he would embrace the ad so brazenly.

Amid the backlash from editorial pages, it’s worth noting that as of 2:30 today the McCain ad had been viewed 1,271,140 times on YouTube — far higher than any other video his campaign has produced, and making his channel the third-most popular on YouTube this week.
