Entering the season, the biggest reason to believe Maryland could defeat California was not talent or coaching or home-field advantage or anything like that.
It was the 9 a.m. Pacific kickoff in store for the Golden Bears when they arrived at Byrd Stadium.

“It’s just a long time to sit around there,” Tedford said on the Pac-10 coaches teleconference earlier this hour. “I don’t think you’re going to get acclimated in a day. We’re going to get up early on Thursday and we’re going to get up early on Friday and get acclimated here.”
That’s probably a better plan. Being accustomed for part of the week to being awake at 5 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Eastern) is probably better than shifting sleeping patterns on the fly.
