A poll released Wednesday by the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling again confirms what politicos across Virginia and the country have long known: The race for U.S. Senate in Virginia is essential tied.
Former Virginia Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine leads former Virginia GOP Sen. George Allen 46-43, but within the margin of error of 4.4 percent.
The firm’s poll in May had the race for the seat for retiring Democratic Sen. Jim Webb at 46-44 for Mr. Kaine.
Mr. Kaine leads 44-33 among independent voters. If Allen were to lose the Republican nomination to Tea Party candidate Jamie Radtke, Mr. Kaine would have a 16 point lead at 47-31, according to the poll.
PPP surveyed 500 Virginia voters from July 21 to 24.
